Technologies
Korr Medical Technologies was founded in
1993 by Scott Kofoed, Ph.D. and Joseph Orr, Ph.D. as a vehicle to commercialize
proprietary respiratory flow-measurement technology. That technology has been improved upon
and is now incorporated in medical instruments sold by GE Medical Systems, Siemens, Novametrix
Medical Systems, PDS Instrumentation, and others. Technology developed
by Korr includes spirometers for use in screening and diagnosis of asthma
and other respiratory diseases. Korr has also designed systems and devices
under contract. These systems have a wide range of applications including:

In 1998, Korr began manufacturing medical testing instruments
under a private label agreement. These devices, designed by Korr, are
now the industry standard and hold a majority of the market share. Korr
is an ISO 9001 compliant manufacturer and complies with all the requirements
of good manufacturing practices (GMP).
Patents and Intellectual Property
Dr. Orr and Dr. Kofoed are the inventors of over 22
issued US, and international, patents. These patents protect 14 medical
and other devices presently on the market and in clinical use.
What We Do
KORR develops and manufactures medical devices and electrical
equipment for measurement, control, and laboratory use. KORR also does
contract research and product development work. We work across the spectrum
of theoretical research to final validation of devices. We manufacture
our own products and perform contract manufacturing for some customers.
Service for customers includes preparation of FDA 510(k) pre-market notification.
KORR Medical Technologies' mission is to provide innovative
solutions to complex problems in physiological monitoring. The real strength
of KORR is in the ability of its employees to find innovative solutions
to problems. Some of the technologies we use are:
- Digital Signal Processing
- Signal extraction using Artificial Intelligence (i.e.
neural networks, fuzzy logic, expert systems)
- Algorithm development
- Control Systems Design (i.e. feedback controller)
Also, KORR has product design capabilities. We have
electrical, mechanical, and software engineers on staff who have been
trained in performing product development under ISO9000 and FDA Quality
System Regulations. Design capabilities include:
- Electronics design using microcontrollers, analog
system design, and such. We commonly design printed circuit boards,
and put printed circuit assemblies into production.
- Product enclosure designs ranging from exotic injection
molded cases to simple sheet metal enclosures. Designs are developed
using 3-D modeling, which lends to early visualization and rapid prototyping
techniques (i.e. stereo lithography).
- Fluidic and pneumatic design.
- Design of automated test equipment.
- Personal Computer (Windows) Software applications.
- Embedded firmware design.
