Measurement of Metabolic Rate Korr Medical Technologies (Salt Lake City, Utah) recently exhibited at the meeting of the American Society of Bariatric Physicians (ASBP) in Las Vegas, Nevada (May 6-10). Korr presented the REEVUE Indirect Calorimeter to Bariatric Physicians from all over the world. The REEVUE brings metabolic measurements to the weight-loss physician, which previously was only practical in a hospital intensive-care setting. Understanding a patient’s actual energy requirements
is essential to create a weight management a plan that will succeed. Diagnosis
of slow metabolism assists the physician to determine if there is a genetic
problem. For patients with a normal metabolism the test addresses the
excuse of a slow metabolism. The REEVUE is an Indirect Calorimeter tailored for nutritional assessment. Knowing more about the patient’s metabolism is the key to effective weight management. General Practitioners and OB/GYN physicians can use the REEVUE to assist their patients with weight management goals. Scott Kofoed, president of Korr Medical Technologies, Inc., stated “Our product allows the physician to provide better care for the obese patient by (1) diagnosing a slow metabolism, (2) providing behavioral reinforcement, (3) addressing psychological factors, and (4) establishing a caloric intake prescription based on an actual measurement of the patient’s metabolic rate.” “The product also provides a great value to the physician’s practice. By performing metabolic testing the practice benefits from additional revenue, strong marketing potential to attract new patients, and by the increased patient perception of the value of services provided. The REEVUE offers a combination of high accuracy and affordability that does not exist in any other product. So now weight-loss physicians can truly have their cake, and eat it too!” Korr Medical Technologies, Inc., founded in 1993, is a worldwide leader in the development of sensor technology used in medical devices.
